About Beaver Ridge Elementary School

Beaver Ridge Elementary School History

Beaver Ridge Elementary School has a unique and interesting history. Located near a grassy ridge and beside a creek, the school sits on the former Welch family home site, which was established in 1925. The school’s address is 1978 Beaver Ruin Road in Norcross, Georgia, and this location contrasts with the original Beaver Ruin School, which served the community in 1896 with just two faculty members.

In August 1979, Beaver Ridge Elementary opened its doors for the first time. Gary Fairley, previously from Norcross Elementary School, served as its first principal. The school started with a staff of 37 certified professionals and 18 support personnel. Initially, 764 students enrolled, ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade. The $1.3 million facility helped reduce overcrowding in four nearby schools in Gwinnett County. Students came from Norcross Elementary, Lilburn Elementary, Rockbridge Elementary, and B. B. Harris Elementary. Beaver Ridge chose the beaver as its mascot, named Bucky Beaver, and adopted blue and silver as its school colors.

Since its beginning, Beaver Ridge Elementary has been dedicated to educational excellence. The school aims to help students reach their full potential. A devoted staff supports this mission by building strong partnerships with families and the community. This collaboration enhances student learning. Additionally, students can join various after-school clubs, including Chess, Robotics, Running, Good News, Ballet, Young Readers, Lego Club, Art Club, and Chorus. The Chess team won the Gwinnett County K–5 Chess Championship in 2015. The Robotics team received regional recognition during the 2014–15 academic year.

Today

In 2016, Beaver Ridge Elementary’s legacy of excellence reached new heights, when Principal Lillard was honored with the Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education. Furthermore, the school mascot, Bucky, received a makeover, symbolizing the ongoing spirit of renewal and growth that continues to define Beaver Ridge Elementary.

Beaver Ridge Elementary School has a student teacher ratio of 15:1 and a total of 983 students, allowing teachers to provide individualized attention and fostering a more conducive learning environment for every student.
