Student Health Services

The Student Health Services (SHS) Team operates with a collaborative approach, utilizing Registered Nurses and Clinic Assistants across our clinics and School-Based Health Centers. Our dedicated team members work in tandem to deliver comprehensive health services and programs, acting as a vital resource for all health-related matters. At SHS, we firmly believe that optimal learning is intricately linked to good health, as research consistently highlights the connection between school nursing services and student academic success.

Health Services Information:
It is imperative that the school be informed if your child has any medical conditions or chronic illnesses, requires assistance with medication, or needs any medical procedures or treatments.

Whenever possible, medication should be administered at home, including all non-essential medications such as vitamins, herbal supplements, essential oils, and narcotic pain medications. However, in cases where medication must be administered at school, during a field trip, or as part of a chaperoned activity before or after school, parents must provide all necessary medications (both prescribed and over-the-counter) in compliance with Fulton County Schools Medication Administration Policy and Guidelines.

Parents or legal guardians are required to complete an authorization and instruction form titled “AUTHORIZATION TO GIVE MEDICATION AT SCHOOL SHS-1 Form.” For all prescription medications, this form must also be signed by a healthcare provider. Medications cannot be administered by the school without the proper authorization form, which applies to both prescription and non-prescription medications. Each medication requires its own separate authorization form, which is valid for the current school year only.

If your child has a medical condition such as asthma, severe allergies, or any other health-related condition necessitating self-administration of medication, or if they need to carry emergency medication (such as an Epipen, Diastat, Inhaler, Glucagon, etc.), or if they have a legitimate reason to carry medication on their person, you must complete and submit an “Authorization for Students to Carry Medication SHS-2 Form” to the school clinic. This form must be signed by the healthcare provider, parent, and student.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications have specific requirements outlined in the annual Health Services Information Letter. It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to ensure that the student’s health and contact information, including telephone numbers and address, are kept up-to-date.
