Atlanta Jewish Academy Mission
Atlanta Jewish Academy (AJA) is an independent Jewish Day School committed to providing a college preparatory education for students from Early Childhood through 12th Grade. Guided by modern orthodox values and principles, we prioritize community, tradition, individual growth, and educational innovation.
Vision
At AJA, we strive to cultivate well-rounded individuals prepared for college and life. We achieve this by instilling a love for Torah, Israel, and the Jewish community, while delivering outstanding General and Judaic education within an inclusive and nurturing environment.
History
Incorporated on July 1, 2014, Atlanta Jewish Academy (AJA) was born from the merger of Greenfield Hebrew Academy (GHA) and Yeshiva Atlanta (YA), the oldest Jewish day schools in Atlanta.
Established in 1953, GHA boasted a rich history of excellence and accomplishment. It was the first Jewish day school in the nation to receive accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, GHA was twice recognized as a National School of Excellence by the Council for American Private Education and was honored with the prestigious Jerusalem Prize for its outstanding commitment to Zionist and Torah Education, bestowed by the World Zionist Organization.
GHA’s founders held a steadfast belief in the enduring values of the Jewish community, transcending denominational differences. They envisioned and built a place where mutual respect, learning, and communal service were paramount.
Founded in 1971, Yeshiva Atlanta stood as Atlanta’s oldest co-educational Jewish high school, renowned for its academic prowess. Recognizing the multifaceted nature of adolescent development, YA emphasized intellectual, social-emotional, physical, and religious-spiritual growth. The school fostered a holistic approach, encouraging participation in athletics, fine arts, and community service alongside academic excellence. YA provided a nurturing environment where students could shape their identities both within the secular world and the Jewish community.
The merger of GHA and YA amalgamated the strengths of both institutions, culminating in the formation of Atlanta Jewish Academy. Today, AJA takes pride in offering a comprehensive educational journey from Early Childhood to 12th Grade, guiding students on their Jewish path.
