About Baldwin Elementary School

Baldwin Elementary School, situated in Norcross, commenced operations in August 2016 with the aim of alleviating the enrollment pressure on elementary schools within the Norcross Cluster. In its inaugural year, the school welcomed approximately 1,150 students across 51 classrooms, equipped with modern facilities including a science classroom, a STEM lab, two computer labs, a gym, a music room, and two art rooms. The construction of this state-of-the-art facility amounted to a total cost of $17,083,632.

A distinctive aspect of Baldwin Elementary is its Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program, which was initiated with the kindergarten class in its first year. In this program, participating kindergartners follow the AKS curriculum, learning language arts and social studies in English, while science and mathematics are taught in Spanish.

On September 25, 2016, the Gwinnett County Board of Education officially dedicated the new school in a lively celebration attended by members of the Norcross community and Beauty Poole Baldwin, the school’s namesake. Mrs. Baldwin, a revered educator and active community member in Gwinnett County, holds a distinguished legacy in education.

In June 1984, Beauty Baldwin made history as the first black female school superintendent in Georgia when she was appointed Superintendent of Buford City Schools. Following her retirement from Buford City Schools in June 1994, Mrs. Baldwin continued her commitment to education. In 1997, she played a pivotal role in establishing Hopewell Christian Academy, where she served as Administrator for 16 years. Subsequently, in June 2014, she founded North Metro Academy of Performing Arts, a Gwinnett County Charter School, where she currently serves as Board Chair.

Mrs. Baldwin remains an active figure in the community, contributing her leadership to various organizations. She is a longstanding member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and has held multiple terms on its board. Additionally, she serves on the Gwinnett County Board of Registrations and Elections, the Rotary Club of Gwinnett, View Point Community Service Board, and holds positions on several other boards including the Jackson Electric Foundation Board and the Executive Board of the Northeast Council of Boy Scouts of America as Vice President of Multicultural Markets. Mrs. Baldwin is also a lifetime member of the Savannah State University Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Mrs. Baldwin cherishes spending quality time with her husband Lucious, daughter Geri, son-in-law Lorenzo, and two grandchildren, Loren and Evan.
