Brookwood High School
About Brookwood High School
Brookwood High School History:
Part of the esteemed Gwinnett County Public Schools system. Brookwood High School’s origins trace back to 1977. Conceived to alleviate above all overcrowding in South Gwinnett and Parkview schools. A committee comprising educators from various corners of the county collaborated to outline the specifications for this new educational institution. In 1981, under the guidance of Principal Emmett Lawson, Brookwood High School welcomed its first cohort of students.
From its inception, Brookwood High School aimed to foster a sense of community, above all. To uphold a standard of excellence across academics, athletics, and extracurricular pursuits. Over three decades later, it has successfully achieved these objectives. The Brookwood community thrives, comprising individuals who prioritize education and familial bonds. Brookwood High and its cluster schools serve as focal points for community activities, reciprocally supported by the community across all school initiatives.
Known for its commitment to academic excellence and diverse extracurricular offerings, Brookwood boasts exceptional student achievement, reflected in consistently high standardized test scores that rival those of top schools in the metro Atlanta area. Over 85% of our students pursue higher education annually. Additionally, Brookwood’s athletic program has set benchmarks within Gwinnett County and the state of Georgia, buoyed by robust parental and community backing, which has facilitated the development of state-of-the-art athletic facilities. Our extracurricular and cocurricular programs, spanning fine arts, performing arts, broadcasting, and journalism, have garnered accolades for their excellence.
