At Hasty Elementary Fine Arts Academy (HEFAA), the school has built a community where teachers, students, parents, and administration work together. They provide an educational setting conducive to effective learning and understanding. In addition to excellent teaching and learning, Hasty Elementary also functions as a Fine Arts Academy School. The school has developed a curriculum that integrates the arts into the academic curriculum. This integration brings creativity, innovation, and arts into the classroom across all content areas. These strategies promote 21st-century skills, critical and creative thinking, student achievement, and academic growth.

Hasty Elementary History

Hasty Elementary Fine Arts Academy’s history traces back to a period of remarkable growth in Canton. From 1990 to 2000, Canton’s population increased by 60%. It grew from 4,853 to 7,780 residents, showing no signs of slowing. In response, the education system transformed. Small community schools transitioned to larger institutions to remain economically viable.

Enter William G. Hasty Sr. Elementary School, a pioneering endeavor as the first large-scale school constructed within Canton’s city limits. Envisioned to accommodate 1,200 students, Hasty Elementary boasts an impressive array of facilities. Their grounds are home to 65 regular-size classrooms, 2 music rooms, 2 art rooms, 2 computer labs, a 6,171 square-foot media center, and a 7,325 square-foot cafetorium—a fusion of cafeteria and auditorium. Hasty Elementary has long stood as a beacon of modernity, designed with state-of-the-art amenities and thoughtful considerations at every turn.

Before the grand opening on August 1, 2005, two primary elementary schools, Canton and Tippens, anchored the educational landscape in Canton. Both Canton and Tippens, deeply ingrained in the fabric of Canton’s culture and history, collectively nurtured approximately 900 students. In the spring of 2005, officials decided to merge Canton and Tippens Elementary Schools, forming the foundation for our school. With the addition of students from burgeoning new developments, Hasty welcomed its inaugural cohort of 1,150 students.

Since its founding, the school has experienced exponential growth, with its population swelling to over 1,450 students. To accommodate this surge, the school introduced additional mobile units to house second and fourth-grade students. In 2008, officials alleviated the strain of overcrowding by establishing two new elementary schools in the Canton area.

Today

Hasty Elementary Fine Arts Academy remains an integral part of the community and serves approximately 1,000 students ranging from Pre-K to fifth grade. The school continues to nurture young minds, fostering creativity and artistic expression alongside academic excellence.
