STEAM Program
Our journey into the realm of STEAM education commenced in 2010, as our leadership began acquiring and implementing key components of what was then our STEM program. On October 31, 2012, Henderson Mill Elementary School proudly received official STEM certification. Dr. Michael Buck, Chief Academic Officer for the Georgia Department of Education, led the dedication ceremony, marking a significant milestone for our students, faculty, community members, and business partners. This achievement was the culmination of a team effort that spanned over a year, transforming Henderson Mill Elementary School from a traditional PreK-5th grade institution into a STEM-focused hub of learning.
At Henderson Mill Elementary, our STEAM program prioritizes a cross-curricular, critical thinking approach, seamlessly integrating STEAM principles into all content areas. Through Project-based Learning, our students tackle real-world challenges with a social action component, applying grade-level skills to address local issues. Additionally, we offer unique programs such as Engineering is Elementary, Small Fry to Go, a school-wide garden, LEGO Build to Express, Aquaponics, and video production. Furthermore, our school is fortunate to have influential business partners supporting our STEM initiatives. Among them are AMEC Foster Wheeler, CERM, Corporate Environmental Risk Management, LLC, Georgia Power, and the Woodruff Arts Center, each contributing valuable resources and expertise to enhance our students’ learning experiences.
