About Hightower Elementary School

Hightower Elementary School opened its doors in 1958 and has since undergone significant growth and transformation. Our student body has expanded, reflecting a rich tapestry of cultural diversity with over 30 different nationalities represented. At Hightower, we take pride in embracing and celebrating this diversity in all aspects of our school life.

Despite our diverse backgrounds, we unite under a single motto:

“The mission of Hightower Elementary School is to provide a standards-based instructional environment that integrates curricular content and emphasizes writing across all subjects. Through this approach, we aim to foster seamless learning opportunities that enhance student achievement and prepare students for a successful transition to middle school without the need for remediation.”

PRINCIPAL ADVISORY COUNCIL

The primary goal of the Hightower Elementary Principal Advisory Council is to foster collaboration among parents, school staff, students, and community members to enhance student achievement and performance.

Members of the Principal Advisory Council are committed to:

Maintaining a school-wide perspective on issues.
Serving as a liaison between the school and the community.
Promoting the involvement of parents and other stakeholders within the school community.
Working towards improving student achievement and performance through transparent operations and the sharing of best practices.
The Principal Advisory Council operates under the governance of the DeKalb County School District and adheres to Board of Education policies and procedures. It offers advice and recommendations to the school principal, the local board of education, and the local school community on matters related to school climate/culture, student achievement, and community partnerships.

PARENT RESOURCES

Welcome to Hightower Elementary School! Our Parent Center is a valuable resource filled with educational materials including games, CDs, DVDs, books, and technology equipment. We encourage you to visit our center and select materials that will benefit your child’s learning journey. Each student can check out up to 3 items, and these materials are due back 2 weeks from the checkout date.

Returning parent center items on time ensures that your child can continue to check out books from the library. Additionally, we offer Parent Workshops throughout the year covering topics such as safety, homework literacy, basic computer skills, and more. We invite you to participate in these workshops to further support your child’s education.
