Hull Middle School – History

Richard Hull Middle School, situated in Duluth, Georgia, honors Richard Hull, a prominent figure renowned for his philanthropy and contributions to the community. Hull was instrumental in establishing a health clinic, later transformed into Joan Glancy Hospital, and was credited with the construction of the original Hull Elementary School. Opening its doors in August 1996 under the leadership of Principal Wanda Yeargin, Hull Middle School initially welcomed 728 students and 71 staff members. Despite its modest beginnings, Hull Middle has since experienced remarkable growth while maintaining a close-knit community atmosphere.

Over the years, Hull Middle has undergone renovations to accommodate its expanding student and staff population. Additional classrooms, a second gym, and an expanded cafeteria were added to the facility to meet the demands of the growing area. By the 2011–12 academic year, Hull Middle had become the largest middle school in the southeast, boasting a student body of 2600 and a staff of 216. However, with the opening of Northbrook Middle School in 2014–15, Hull’s student count reduced to 1307, allowing for a more manageable environment.
