About Miles Elementary School

L.P. Miles Elementary School holds a special place in history for several reasons:

Originally established as Bethlehem Church School in 1907, with an initial enrollment of 73 students, this institution began its journey as the first school for African-American students in the Adamsville-Boulder Park communities. When it was first valued, the property was worth $800..

Over time, as the Adamsville-Boulder Park communities evolved and expanded, the significance of this educational establishment grew exponentially. In 1966, metropolitan Atlanta formally incorporated these two communities through annexation, marking a pivotal moment in their development.

In recognition of the profound impact and enduring legacy of this institution, the Fulton County Board of Education made a significant decision. On April 16, 1967, officials renamed and dedicated the school as L.P. Miles Elementary to honor Leonora Precious Miles for her dedication and contributions to education in the community.

Library Hours:
The library welcomes students Monday through Friday during regular school hours. Students check out books, reserve titles, take AR tests, and engage in quiet reading before school, during recess (if no class is scheduled), and during their designated class time. To visit the library once classes have commenced, students require a pass from a staff member. Students can return books at any time using the book return slot located at the circulation desk.

Library Fines:
At MES, we do not impose overdue library fines. However, we kindly request that students return their borrowed books promptly once they have finished reading them, allowing others to enjoy the resources.
