Montclair Elementary School – OUR PROGRAM

Montclair Elementary School, home of the Mustangs, is a public elementary school located in Brookhaven, GA. We are a vibrant and diverse learning community dedicated to providing our students with a high-quality and impactful educational experience. Our goal is to nurture life-long learners who excel to their individual potential. At Montclair, the combined efforts of our staff, students, parents, and community members contribute to the success of every student.

Montclair Elementary strives to set high expectations and achieve academic excellence for every learner. We do this by implementing strategic instructional models, fostering active professional learning communities, and ensuring instrumental stakeholder engagement within our school.

Wellness Regulation

The link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning is well documented. Healthy eating and activity patterns are essential for students to reach their full academic potential, achieve physical and mental growth, and maintain lifelong health and well-being. These habits are crucial for maintaining a healthy weight and are associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and many other chronic conditions. Schools have a responsibility to help students learn, establish, and maintain lifelong healthy eating and activity patterns. Well-planned and effectively implemented school nutrition and fitness programs have been shown to enhance students’ overall health, behavior, and academic achievement. Additionally, staff wellness is an integral part of a healthy school environment, as school staff can serve as daily role models for healthy behaviors.

Goals for Nutrition Education, School Nutrition, and Available Foods:

Integrate nutrition education into other areas of the curriculum, such as math, language arts, and social studies.
Ensure healthy food choices are available at extracurricular activities where food is sold.
Goals for Physical Activity and Education:

Strongly recommend that all schools incorporate thirty minutes of daily physical education taught by a certified teacher.
Implement an annual fitness program for students in grades three through five to test and evaluate their fitness levels; students in grades six through twelve will use a research-based fitness test.
Conduct the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s School Health Index assessment annually to evaluate physical activity, healthy eating, and a tobacco-free lifestyle in all schools.
