Norton Elementary School About
R.L. Norton Elementary School was established to address the issue of overcrowding at Annistown and Centerville Elementary Schools in South Gwinnett County. The school pays homage to Robert Lee Norton, a respected member of the Gwinnett County Board of Education from 1948 to 1958. Prior to his tenure on the board, Mr. Norton dedicated nearly two decades of service as a trustee of the Centerville School. His unwavering commitment to the community, his church, and the educational system left a lasting impact. R.L. Norton Elementary School officially welcomed its first students on August 25, 1986.
Local School Council
Norton Elementary School’s Local School Council (LSC) serves as an advisory board, established under GA House Bill 1187. It convenes regularly throughout the year to deliberate on matters concerning continuous school enhancement and to foster community engagement and interest in educational matters. The council comprises parent representatives, teacher representatives, local business members, and the principal.
The Local School Council convenes at least four times annually
Clinic
Children who sustain injuries or fall ill while at school receive first aid assistance. However, our clinic does not stock any medication, including aspirin, for distribution to students. We offer basic wound care such as cleaning cuts and scrapes and applying bandages as necessary. Any condition requiring additional attention will be communicated to the parent for further care. It’s important to note that our clinic does not function as a medical facility and we are unable to dispense any medication without prior written consent from parents.
