Sugar Hill Elementary School – Principal’s Message
It is an honor to serve the Sugar Hill family as Principal for the 2023-24 school year. Sugar Hill Elementary, though a large school, maintains a small-town feel. Our school began as a two-room schoolhouse in 1915 and has grown significantly since then. We have strong, supportive relationships with leaders from the City of Sugar Hill and numerous nonprofit organizations in our community, providing unique opportunities for our students and families.
At Sugar Hill Elementary, our mission is to develop the whole child, nurturing them to become academic leaders, critical thinkers, and compassionate global citizens. This year, our staff theme is “Building the Bridge.” We will focus on five critical areas from Our Blueprint for the Future to help every student reach their full potential.
Empathy: 1.B Staff and Student Well-Being
We will incorporate additional enrichment opportunities and social-emotional learning (SEL) during the instructional day. Students will learn about the impact of our standards in our community through strategic partnerships with the City of Sugar Hill and the Lanier Cluster.
Equity: 2.A – Multi-Tiered System of Supports
We will use data to make informed instructional decisions, providing tiered supports based on student needs.
Equity: 2.B – Opportunity and Access
We will host our 2nd Annual Career Day, increasing the number of careers represented. We will also enhance enrichment opportunities during Roundup, offering additional programs in robotics, environmental education, gamification, and drones.
Effectiveness: 3.A – Results-Based Evaluation System
We will implement quarterly data talks to review student progress and continue leveraging the iReady universal screener to inform instructional decisions.
Excellence: 4.C – World-Class Communication and Engagement
We will continue to offer parent workshops both in the evening and during the day and introduce a new communication platform called ParentSquare to improve and streamline our communication channels.
As principal of Sugar Hill Elementary, I am excited to help students learn what it takes to be productive and successful members of society, lead others with compassion and empathy, and succeed in whatever future endeavors they choose to pursue.
